Description
There were only 16 Series 400 dolls made by the Lenci Company. They first appeared in the 1926 catalog where there were only eight styles. They stand 16 to 16 ½ inches tall with long limbs and a slender teen body. Made only as girls, they had a very delicate appearance. They are very sought after, but elusive today. Eight more Series 400 dolls appear again in the 1927, then never to be seen in later catalogs. The doll is often referred to as a “teenage” girl. To find one in good condition is a rare treat for the Lenci collector. Included are some catalog pictures showing this model A as well as a photo from Nancy Lazenby’s new book, Lenci – The History and the Dolls on page 99. As stated in the book, this is 400/A. The doll in the Lazenby book wears a necklace that is not original to the doll nor are the socks (doesn’t show in this photo). As you can see, Lenci made dolls with different colored hair and pieced felt outfits. Her condition is good – she is clean and her face is very fresh looking with the typical side-glancing eyes and two-toned lips. Her hair is blonde mohair. She had some moth damage expertly repaired, which isn’t noticeable in that wonderful felt pieced dress. Yes, each little piece of felt is sewn like a mosaic puzzle. Her big orange bow is not original. Both arms have very slight damage, but again it is hardly noticeable. Overall, she is a great doll. This is one of many dolls for sale this week. There are also many photos, a calendar, a tea cozy as well as children's shoes. Buy more than one item and save on postage. If you have any questions, please email.
