Description
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for auction is an extraordinary French Fashion doll, attributed to Jumeau.  Every once in awhile a doll comes along that has "The Look"...and this beautiful French Fashion has it.    This poupee is 17 inch(43 cm) and has a bisque, swivel head on kid-edged shoulder plate.  She has almond shaped fixed blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and feathered arched brows, with accented eye corners.  Shaded nostrils and a closed mouth with very full accented lips. The painting and shading gives her a somewhat mysterious smile! She has pierced ears and a blonde mohair wig over cork pate, and her original muslin poupee body and kid arms with stitched and separated leather fingers.  She is attributed to Jumeau, circa 1875 as appraised by the noted doll auction house, Theriaults. (The comments were that she was attributed to Jumeau, circa 1875, unmarked with special notation  given to her very beautiful face and fine quality of bisque.)   Her lovely wig is a blonde mohair and of high quality. I could speculate that it is original due to the fine quality and styling, but it is only a guess.  She has a cork pate. Her coloring and bisque are exquisite and fine. She has an extremely delicate look about her with fine modeling of her face.   She has her original body.  I have been told it is a Lacman body by an interested ebayer.  Florence from the auction house told me that in her experience, the original muslin bodies found on poupees are of 2 different kinds.  The body on this doll is the( second) kind, and she has found it most appearing on beautiful early portrait like Jumeau poupees. She also remarked that the face on this doll to be particularly beautiful with striking painting. Her bisque is fine quality and her face is so beautiful, she is angelic. I hope you can see that especially in the last picture.  I moved the doll to another location to get a better photo.  Please disregard any yellow vertical line as that is my camera.  Her clothing fits her perfectly.  She is costumed in a gorgeous 3 piece gown.  The material appears to be an old iridescent taffeta with shades of royal purple, deep marine blue, and ever changing to burgundy as this fabric does.  The gown style is a newer walking suit of 3 pieces with amazing finish work and reminiscent of  Godey’s and Peterson’s. The old lace jabot is separate. Her gown was sewn together, without any  buttons or hooks and eyes in the back. I carefully and gently snipped a few threads so you can see her shoulderplate, the top of her chemise, a hint of her arms and her body. You can see the fancy "frog" closures on the jacket front in the photos. The undergarments also include a complete set with a chemise that is slightly visible in the picture, petticoat and pantaloons.  The workmanship and quality of her lingerie, and the stockings are incredible.  So fine and detailed...please look at the close ups. She could easily be displayed in her chemise and petticoat and have the dress shown separately. She displays beautifully because of her lovely face.   I’m not sure if she ever had an original gown, or if somewhere in her past, she lost her original gown, but this one suits her and makes a fashion statement even if it is a newer garment. If you have ever owned a doll whose value was diminished by a shredding outfit, you will be able to appreciate the beauty and practicality of this one!  Her boots with heels are old and have all the buttons present. It is difficult to find antique doll shoes with complete buttons, as you know if you have been looking for some.  I am also including a blue wool felt hat that accents her outfit. I have maxed out ebay's limit for photos, so, if you need one, please contact me and I will do my best to send you what you request. Please email questions, I am happy to answer them. This is a final sale from my personal collection.     If you have been waiting and looking for a dreamy  French Fashion doll, this one is for you, and she is cabinet ready.  She is a very desirable size with an original body seldom seen. She has all the wonderful attributes of a French Poupee.    I do accept other payment methods besides Paypal.  Please email me and if you are the winning bidder, do not use ebay checkout.  I will email you with a total.  Shipping will be by Registered mail from the USPS not priority.  The charge of $30 shipping is to the continental USA only, and includes shipping, handling, packing materials and insurance. NO INTERNATIONAL BIDS>  USA bids only, please.  Thank you.           On Nov-21-08 at 07:20:14 PST, seller added the following information:In response to inquiries, her hips and knees bend. Her arms are kid, her fingers are kid and sewn separately. On Nov-22-08 at 08:18:55 PST, seller added the following information:I have identified a very tiny opening at the side seam of the end of one finger. I think a little dab of glue( that dries transparently, like Elmer's ?) on a toothpick and a little squeeze to  hold the seam together should do it.  If you would like a photo, please email.  Thanks.
